Why Image Size Matters in E-Commerce
Your product images are your virtual storefront. If an image is too large, your page loads slowly, hurting your SEO and bounce rate. If it's too small, the platform will stretch it, making your product look blurry and unprofessional. Every platform has its own "sweet spot" for aspect ratios and resolutions.
Etsy Image Sizes
Etsy favors landscape-oriented images, especially for thumbnails.
- Listing Image: 2000px on the shortest side, 72 PPI. Aspect ratio 4:3 (e.g., 2666 x 2000 px).
- Shop Banner: 1200 x 300 px (Mini) or 3360 x 840 px (Big).
- Shop Icon: 500 x 500 px.
Shopify Image Sizes
Shopify is flexible because themes dictate the layout, but consistency is key. Square images generally perform best across all themes.
- Product Images: 2048 x 2048 px (Square 1:1) is the golden rule. This provides perfect quality for zoom functionality without being too heavy.
- Hero Banners: 1600 x 600 px or 1920 x 1080 px depending on your theme.
Amazon Image Sizes
Amazon has strict requirements. Images must have a pure white background (RGB 255,255,255) and the product must fill 85% of the frame.
- Main Product Image: 2000 x 2000 px. (Must be at least 1000px on one side to enable hover-to-zoom).
- Aspect Ratio: 1:1 (Square).
Social Media & Marketing
When driving traffic to your store, formatting matters just as much.

|---|---|---|
| Square Post | 1080 x 1080 px (1:1) | |
| Instagram / TikTok | Stories & Reels | 1080 x 1920 px (9:16) |
| Standard Pin | 1000 x 1500 px (2:3) | |
| Ad Image | 1080 x 1080 px (1:1) |
